He is repairing cross branding on the mirror frame which was extensively damaged. He used the traditional animal glue which has to be heated in a glue pot. before application. Because the frame was originally glued with animal glue 100 years ago, one has to use the same materials, as this is compatible unlike modern glues which would not have worked in this case.
