These hall chairs were very common in Victorian houses as a pair. Situated in the hallways of larger houses, they are one of the most uncomfortable chairs ever designed. Probably to make people uncomfortable prior to a meeting!
The repair was a complete restoration as they were literally falling apart and all the joints were loose. Having dismantled them and re-glued all the joints, they were then French polished and aged so as not to look new.
